PART 1: BORN IN SOHO

Club Neurotica first opened on Sunday 5th December 1993 at the small, basement bar known as the Arts Theatre Club in Soho’s Frith Street. The original crew consisted of the Neurotica band members (Miles Landesman, his wife Caitlin Mckenna, and Diesel Dave), with their friend, actor and singer Perry Benson. Also on the crew as resident DJ was Caitlin’s brother and former band member, Gee Mckenna. He was soon joined by future band member, DJ James Lawless.

The club night ran at the Arts every Sunday until late March ’94. Although only a four month run, the 12 nights held there were enough to define the ethos of Club Neurotica with a then unheard of blend of poets, bands, DJ’s and visual entertainment. The odd quiet night was easily remedied by persuading groups of Japanese tourists queuing for Ronnie Scott’s next door that they should come to a real underground night! It was certainly the first weekly night that could honestly use the term ‘multi-media event’, and its’ growing popularity soon meant it was time to leave our small capacity, first venue.
